By prioritising the City winger and a new defender, the current German champions are likely to take themselves out of the running for Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz.
Havertz is currently attracting plenty of attention for Europe's elite, with Chelsea in pole position to sign the German international, according to The Athletic.
The 24-year-old has one more year left on his deal, but the Citizens have been trying to get him sign an extension for several months. It appears Sane has held the contract talks in order to force a move in the next transfer window.
Bayern have been long-time admirers of the German winger, however struggled to close a deal for him last summer when City valued Sane around £130 million.
Now, they could be looking for a deal less than £50 million after he spent the majority of this season on the sidelines due to the ACL tear in his right leg.
Bayern's current wide options of Serge Gnabry, Kinsley Coman and Ivan Perisic have all impressed this season, but with loanee Philippe Coutinho set to return to Barcelona at the end of the season, Bayern are looking for a new winger.
The Bundesliga champions are also in the market for a right-back, after natural central defender Benjamin Pavard has filled in on the right side of defence for much of this season.
The German champions did loan Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid for this season, but he has only played two matches all competitions.
