Nemanja Matic has signed a new contract with the club, keeping him until 2023.
Manchester United have tied down the Serbian midfielder to a new three-year contract, having been impressed by his recent performances. Matic has become indispensable to the team and has proven to be the first-choice defensive midfielder ahead of the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred. At once, it seemed he would leave the club at the end of the season as he was out of favour under Ole, but he made the most of the chances given to him and now it seems difficult to leave him out of the starting XI. He has made 114 appearances so far.
" I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club," Matic told United's official website.
" As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour. This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group.
" This is a key part of the season and we are playing well. We will continue to fight to finish the season on a high and make our amazing supporters proud."
We too Nemanja, are very, very happy to hear that you are here for a few more years. The club has made the right choice by extending his contract. It's very important for the club to have experienced players like Matic, who can nurture the upcoming midfielders from the academy. Fred and McTominay too could learn a lot from him when it comes to defensive midfield duty. This news has made our Monday less mundane.
